Navigating in Minkata

The clue book in the Library gives you a set of course headings and distances to a series of locations, which turn out to be holes in the ground.

Once you can work out how to measure distance using the numbered flags around the cage at the link in point, following the directions, if done carefully, will lead you to the holes. But this is very difficult to do, especially on the later holes, which have many changes of direction. Small errors build up, and you can end up quite a long way off.

Best bet, seems to be to draw out the courses and plot a direct line from the cage to each hole, and try to go straight there in one move.

An Unconventional Route to Hole #2

Hole 2 is one of the the longer runs in Minkata and seems to give a few people problems, even when using a "spoiler" map to get a direct headng. In golfing terms, this hole is "Stroke Index 2".

The main factor with this hole is that you can't just line yourself up using the compass rose on top of the cage and run off in that direction, because your avatar insists on climbing down the ladder, so you lose some of the precision of your original heading.

Here's another way to tackle this one:

Find the yellow flag to the South East of the cage and turn to face East, as shown below:

Aim the just pass the left side of the large crater in the middle distance. Now RUN for 85 seconds. You should just about drop into the hole!
